Crayfish Campaign

  • Research

It all starts with data. We believe the key to controlling and eradicating Pacifastacus leniusculus (Signal Crayfish) is to better understand their population dynamics and reproductive behaviours in different environments. We have committed to 3 long term studies with the aim of developing a viable control and eradication method.

  • Protection and Policy

We actively communicate with stakeholders, partners and government agencies in order to better improve the legislative policy that protects our native White Claw Crayfish and their habitat with the over arching aim of bringing this species back from the brink of extinction with lasting legislative protection.

  • Habitat

Our native White Claw Crayfish require good quality water with a high biodiversity and suitable habitat to overwinter. We are actively working with relevant partners to improve suitable habitat availability for White Clawed Crayfish so that populations can be reintroduced in the future.

  • Reintroduction

We are actively working with partners to directly ensure that gentically viable populations of native white claw Crayfish exist in designated ark sites that can be used to reintroduce them to our waterways as progress is made in the battle against the Red Signal Crayfish.
